Elizabeth Castillo, Ph.D., Thought Partner

Elizabeth Castillo, Ph.D., Thought Partner, has 20 years of experience in nonprofit management and fundraising. She served as Director of Development for the Balboa Park Cultural Partnership (2009-2012) and Director of Foundation Relations at the San Diego Natural History Museum (1999-2009). Her current role is Assistant Professor of Organizational Leadership at Arizona State University. Her research investigates capitalization of social sector organizations, focusing on the role that intangible assets (e.g., social, cultural, political capital) play in developing long-term financial sustainability. She also studies capacity building, collaboration, and fundraising through the lens of complex adaptive systems. Her consulting expertise includes organizational development, capacity building, program design, performance management, and strategic planning.
